Private Chef Website Design Case Study
A New Website for a Private Chef Ready to Level Up
Branding Strategy for Eight Eight Gastronomy in Jamaica
When Chef Volae Williams came to us, he needed more than a website. He needed a brand that could carry the weight of nearly 20 years in Jamaica's hospitality. Eight Eight Gastronomy Ltd, his private chef and catering company based in St. Ann, Jamaica, was ready to launch, but it had no visual identity, no color story, and no online home.
This case study breaks down how we approached the project from the ground up, and why the process matters if you're a private chef or caterer thinking about your own website.
The Client: Eight Eight Gastronomy
Chef Volae named his company after his birth year, 1988, a personal marker for the start of his lifelong relationship with food. After Hurricane Melissa disrupted Jamaica's tourism and hotel sector, he turned nearly two decades of culinary experience into something of his own: a boutique catering company built around private events, culinary consultation, staff training, and custom menu development.
That kind of story deserves a brand that feels intentional, not generic. This wasn't a template job.
What We Delivered
For this project, Boxify Web Designs handled the full scope, not just the build:
Brand strategy — defining how Eight Eight Gastronomy should look, sound, and feel across every touchpoint
Custom color palette — a black and gold scheme that signals luxury dining without leaning on cliché
Single-page scroll website — built on Squarespace, designed for private chefs and caterers whose clients want a fast, visual, mobile-friendly browsing experience
Full website copywriting — every section written to reflect Chef Volae's story and convert visitors into inquiries
Image editing — retouching and formatting food photography so every dish looks gallery-worthy
Custom icon pack — a matching set of icons for the services section, tying the whole site together visually
Why Private Chefs Need a Different Kind of Website
Most private chef and catering websites make the same mistake: they read like a restaurant menu instead of a private booking service. A private chef isn't selling a table for two. He's selling trust, taste, and an experience someone is willing to hand over their event to.
That's why we built Eight Eight Gastronomy's site around a single, focused scroll rather than a scattered multi-page structure. Visitors move from the hero section straight into the "Why Us" story, service breakdown, chef bio, gallery, and booking form, with nothing pulling them off track. For a private chef, every page view is a potential client evaluating whether to trust you with their wedding, birthday, or corporate event. One wrongly placed element can take away from your clients attention, and that can cost you hundreds of customers in the long term. Boxify Web Designs builds websites with the intention to convert each and every visitor. Small elements can make a big difference. We value attention driven marketing, and with each element we stand with our clients to showcase them at their highest levels.

Design Choices That Reinforce the Brand
The black and gold palette wasn't a default luxury look pulled off a shelf. It ties directly into the plating style in Chef Volae's food photography, dark backgrounds, gold garnish accents, and warm lighting, so the website feels like an extension of the actual dining experience rather than a separate marketing layer.
Our website designers worked with Chef Volae to ensure his design strategy was implemented correctly. His dark theme website ideas fits perfectly with his brand. His gold outlines, texts, and buttons fit well in his vision for what Eight Eight Gastronomy is and would be.
The custom icon set does the same job for the services section. Instead of stock icons that could belong to any catering website, each icon was built to match the brand's line weight and gold accent color, keeping the "Private Catering," "Culinary Consultation," "Training & Development," and "Menu Design & Development" sections visually consistent with the rest of the page.
Result driven design for private chefs
Eight Eight Gastronomy now has a website built to do three things: establish credibility fast, showcase the food properly, and make booking simple. The "Reserve Your Event" form sits at the bottom of the scroll, so once a visitor is convinced, converting them into a lead takes one step, not a hunt through a navigation menu.
You can see the finished site at eighteightgastronomy.com.
